Reading: Galatians chapter 6
Spotlight: Galatians 6:9

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

This is one of my favorites of all God’s promises in the word. It provides me encouragement when I feel like my efforts in the kingdom are in vain. I lean on this promise when it seems like nothing is going right and I am struggling with hopelessness. God’s word is rich with promises from Genesis to Revelation and they are there for us to grab a hold of and lean on in times of persecution and trouble. If we can just learn to live by these promises and walk in them, only then can we expect to receive the reward of each promise. As I labor in ministry toward what God has called me to do, I often feel like I am laboring in vain. I get frustrated when people don’t share my vision or share my passion for what God is calling us to do. I often feel lonely and rejected because of these feelings. The enemy uses them to attack me with hopelessness, despair and depression to sap my strength and get me to quit. Then I begin to question if what I am doing is right. I begin to question if I really am hearing the Lord’s voice and then I ponder quitting and start thinking about what else I could be doing.
But as I stay in God’s word and seek to live out the truth’s outlined in it, I never ceased to be amazed at how when I feel the most hopeless, I run into one of His beautiful promises that reminds why I am doing what I do. It snaps me out of my pity party and rejuvenates my spirit. I am once again reminded of the vision that He gave me and the fact that He will see me through until the end.
This scripture is so special to me because it speaks directly to that struggle. “Do not grow weary in doing good… “ Don’t give up. Don’t let the enemy distract you. Don’t cave in to hopelessness, don’t believe the enemy’s lies that it is all for nothing. Why? Because at the “proper time” the time when God ordains, when we’ve learned what we were meant to learn in the trial, when all the preparations have been made and when He, who sees all and knows all has decided that would be the most efficient opportunity to make the most of our efforts, “at the proper time, we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up.”
There are two keys in that statement one is a challenge and one is a promise. The challenge is, “If we do not give up.” We must see it through until the end, we must persevere. We cannot run nine tenths of the race and quit and expect God to bless that. We must see it through until the end. The promise is this: “…We will reap a harvest.” It doesn’t say we might reap a harvest. It doesn’t say that odds are likely that we will reap a harvest. It says we will reap a harvest. God’s word is truth, its relevant, its rock solid and you can bank on it. If we continue to run the race, we WILL reap a harvest. He will bless our labors and we will see the fruit. It’s a guarantee as sure as I am sitting here.
So as you consider the struggles in your own life. As you think about the things you have been laboring toward. Please learn this scripture, hold onto this promise and continue to “run the race.” DO not let yourself be wearied by the enemy and you will see a harvest.

How to pray this scripture:

Dear Lord Jesus, Thank you for your promises. Thank you that you have called me and have given me purpose. I pray that I would not grow weary in doing good. I pray that I would keep myself focused on you and what you have called me to do. I pray that I would learn to wait on you and to trust that you are sovereign. I pray that I would lean on your promises and know that at the proper time, in your timing I will see a harvest. I will se the promises that you have given me come to fruition. I pray that you would strengthen me, and that you would guide me that I would not give up but continue to run a good race and to trust that you are preparing the harvest and preparing me for the time that I will see that harvest. Thank You for your word and for your promises. In Jesus’ name, amen.
